Item Description
Sizes are 7/16" to 3.5". Seven of the eight items date to the early 1900s-1920. First is a wonderful celluloid piece with attached bar pin. Designed as an ear of corn it pictures a grain elevator and a steaming locomotive followed by coal tender and box cars. Front text reads "Grain Dealers Convention." The front opens to reveal the ear of corn without its husk and this holds a cardboard insert naming "C.A. Russell, U.S. Government, Decatur, Illinois." Advertising on the reverse of the front piece has ink date of "1911" plus text "Insured With Grain Dealers Fire Insurance Co. Indianapolis, Ind." NM and rare. Second is brass and enamel lapel stud by W&H. This reads "I.C.G.A. Org. 1902." The initials stand for Iowa Corn Growers Association. Slight luster loss from the depicted ear of corn. Next is celluloid button simply inscribed "Iowa" with great color image of a pair of corn ears above a pig. Reverse back paper by Bastian c. 1910. Next is 1.75" button without back paper promoting "The 'Tower System' For Corn Culture." Illustration of a corn plant while below are what seem to be a pair of plow blades shown in different positions to demonstrate "The Right Way./The Wrong Way." Next is highly embossed brass shell pin showing ear of corn with raised letters across it "Iowa." Next is another enamel and brass lapel stud, no maker, and this one reads "Des Moines Does Things" with the text flanking an ear of corn. Next is a somewhat newer item. This is figural brass with a needle post and clutch on the back. A hand holds a vertical ear of corn with text at the wrist area "Funk's G-Hybrid/304 Bushel/Challenger." This piece is probably 1950s or earlier. Last is a brass badge with corn ear at top reading "Official Souvenir." Vertical corn ears hold a medallion with color accent paint. The piece was issued for the 1910 convention in Des Moines and carries the initials of the union group "United Brotherhood Of Carpenters & Joiners Of America." Some luster loss but majority remains. All pieces are Exc. to Mint except as noted.
