Item Description
Large 20.5x27-3/8" sheet of heavy stock artpaper features mixed media original art featuring recreation of original panel for The Flame, created by Will Eisner and Lou Fine. The lost son of a missionary who was raised by Tibetan monks and granted mastery over the element of fire, The Flame debuted in "Wonderworld Comics" #3 (July 1939) and enjoyed a fairly healthy career as one of Fox's top characters until 1942, when the publisher abandoned most of its superheroes. Recreation was done by comic legend Joe Simon (1913-2011), who edited The Flame's exploits. Simon is perhaps best-known as the co-creator of Captain America. Art features great full body image of The Flame, w/smoking pipe in foreground, the character materializing from the pipe's smoke w/hand-lettered caption at top. Word balloon reads "I'm At Your Service Gentlemen!" Lower left has hand-lettered "From Lou Fine Art - By Joe Simon, Editor - 1939" text w/Simon's signature. Sheet has some handling wear w/paint smudge at lower right, but art remains clean and Exc.
