Item Description
In Auction #214 the rare 6" version of this design realized over $1,250.00. This 1.25" version is equally rare in our experience and first we've offered as the usual (but scarce) buttons from this event are several color versions in the 1.75" size. This 1.25" version, like the 6", has no maker name. Light and normal oxidation on the tin back. Cello is NM displaying Mint and button comes from color plate page #159. Design shows well dressed spectators looking upward, several using binoculars, to see airship and bi-plane. From a pole a large flag reads "Aviation Contest/Los Angeles Jan. 1910". Officially titled "Los Angeles International Air Meet", this was one of the very first air shows (see next two items from DC and Chicago) with 11 day run and attendance of 254,000 people. The LA Times called it "One Of The Greatest Public Events In The History Of The West". Comes w/Hake's COA.
