Item Description
3-1/16" tall ribbon suspending from loop a brass oval. Ribbon is without pin and likely once had a bar pin of some type. Front shows bi-plane flying above Capitol with text "First Annual Aeroplane Exhibit/Washington/ D.C./1911." Reverse text "Under The Auspices Of The National Aviation Co." with tiny text naming DC maker Dieges & Clust. This event took place outside DC at College Park Airport where, also in 1911, the first Army Aviation School was established (first test of a bomb aiming device) and where the National Aviation Co. was formed to give instruction in Curtiss, Bleriot and Wright aeroplanes as well as to keep them in good repair. Light age tone/wear on the ribbon but Fine and with NM luster on the oval. First we've seen.
