Item Description
1.75" dia. enamel on heavy brass fob by Greenduck. Scene shows man in primitive plane flying above the city skyline with text below the buildings "Chicago 1911." Fob was originally part of a press badge issued for reporters covering this famous event. From August 12-20, 1911 Chicago hosted the greatest aviation meet held in the U.S. during the Exhibition Era. Grant Park, between Michigan Ave. and Lake Michigan was the site of the meet. The location was spectacular and a gigantic crowd watched the aerial machines from huge bleachers seating 75,000 people. This fob complete with its fabric ribbon inscribed "Press" and an upper metal bar pin is pictured on the internet at the site Lincolnbeachey.com. Fob is NM displaying Mint with near full luster. This is the only other example we know of. See previous two aero expo items #590-591.
