Item Description
2-5/8x3.75". The 1956 Topps set is similar in format to the '55 Topps set using both a portrait and action pose. For the first time team photo cards were introduced as part of a Topps set and the addition of card checklists was also a new innovation. On the backs, a three panel cartoon depicts big moments from that player's career. Campanella made his Major League debut in 1948 (having previously played in the Negro Leagues and Mexican League), becoming the first black catcher in MLB history. Campy was a member of the 1955 World Champion Brooklyn Dodgers, a 3-time NL MVP and 8-time NL All-Star. Roy was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969.
