Each is 7/8". Linton was a Congressman from Michigan who ran for the presidency on the Republican ticket in 1896. Linton was a member of the American Protective Association (APA), a secret anti-Catholic organization founded in Clinton, IA in the 1880s. The organization wielded significant influence during the mid-1890s and had infiltrated a sizable portion of the Republican Party at the time. Linton lost the nomination to William McKinley, an outspoken opponent of the APA, and shortly after, the anti-Catholic order faded away. Linton was appointed to postmaster of Saginaw in 1898 by McKinley, and his political career ended after an unsuccessful bid for the Michigan governorship in 1914. Larry Brokofsky Collection.
