This is the earliest known button picturing Buffalo Bill. On the bottom curl, requiring magnification to read, are the words "Stacy Photographer". His image is on photographic paper (no dot screen) and the reverse has a Hake Type IV back paper which was first used by Whitehead & Hoag in December, 1896 and then changed to a new design about mid-1897. On the top front an arched panel reads "Col. Wm. F. Cody" and this is the only button we know of to show him wearing a  western hat with floral accents on the underside of the brim. Contrast is on the light side but all details are clear, without age marks and w/high gloss. Exc. Rare. See next two Cody buttons.
