A Scotch cap covering the face of a statue of Columbia above him in left-hand corner. Artist was Adalbert Volck, a Bavarian-born political cartoonist known for his pro-Confederacy commentary and artwork. Volck served as a personal courier for Confederate President, Jefferson Davis. This etching illustrates a clear anti-Lincoln and anti-Union message. Some wear and light age toning concealed by the matting along the outer margins, but virtually no wear seen when presented.
