Item Description
2x3". Little is known about this issue. The complete set consists of 231 "cards" that are actually stickers to be used with an accompanying album. There are subsets for the Santurce All-Star Team (#1-#9), Ponce All-Star Team (#10-#18), and Roberto Clemente (#198-#206) composite photos. Several former Negro League players are found within the set, as are a number of young major leaguers that were getting in extra Winter work in Puerto Rico.
Tetelo Vargas was one of the greatest Latin/Negro League ballplayers of all-time. Vargas' playing career spanned 26 seasons from 1927-53, playing primarily for the Cuban Stars and New York Cubans in the U.S. as well as many winters in Puerto Rico and, in later, years, Mexico. Tetelo was a terrific all-around player who excelled in center field while hitting for both average and power as well as being a top base stealer. Richard Merkin Collection.
