This blank back print was intended to be posted to promote concert attendance at the Waikiki Shell on Jan. 24th. Carlin was approaching the height of his cultural importance in 1975 following a transition from relatively clean comedy. He was arrested and charged w/violating obscenity laws in July of 1972 after a performance at the festival Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI. In 1973 a listener complained to the FCC about his son hearing a recording of "Filthy Words" on WBAI New York radio in the early afternoon. The complaint saw the FCC issue a reprimand citation to the radio station's owners Pacifica Foundation, who challenged the ruling all the way to the Supreme Court. In FCC v. Pacifica Foundation the Court ended in a 5-4 landmark decision upholding the FCC actions stating the routine was "Indecent But Not Obscene" who overturned the citation defining the power of the FCC to fine broadcasters for inappropriate material. These controversies only increased Carlin's fame and later in 1975 he hosted the premiere broadcast of NBC's Saturday Night Live.
