The record was a hit, peaking at #10 on the Billboard charts. RCA pressured Reed to quickly produce another record to capitalize on the moment. Reed though was disinterested in RCA's demands and proceeded to deliver them the follow up Metal Machine Music. The experimental noise album was a radical departure from his prior work but cemented his reputation as one of rock's most cantankerous figures.
