Item Description
10.5x15-7/8" artboard has pen and ink original art by Howard Chaykin for Star Wars #4, published by Marvel Oct. 1977. Art is for page 30 and is from Part 4 of Star Wars: A New Hope movie adaptation. Inks by Steve Leialoha. Page features five panels and shows Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 about to escape the Death Star as Stormtroopers converge on the docking bay, just after Darth Vader killed Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke reacts with intense emotion in second panel as he hears the voice of his mentor through the Force (with Kirby Krackle effects in the background). Ultimately safe aboard the Millennium Falcon, Luke and Leia appear together in two panels, while close-up of Luke's face dominates second panel. Art has been signed at lower left margin in black felt tip pen by Chaykin. Top margin has stamped/handwritten "Star Wars" title along w/inked issue/page numbers. Top corners have been clipped and top/bottom margins have thin strips of tape staining, not affecting art. Back has Marvel copyright stamp. Small .25" spot of staining at Luke's crotch in fourth panel, otherwise art remains clean and VF. Very few pages of original art from the film adaptation issues of Star Wars have ever come to market. This piece (and other Star Wars original art offered in this auction) is fresh to market and this is its first time at auction. All came from one collector, and each is an incredible find.
