Item Description
10.5x15-7/8" artboard has pen and ink original art by Howard Chaykin for Star Wars #2, published by Marvel Aug. 1977. Art is for page 26 and is from Part 2 of Star Wars: A New Hope movie adaptation. Inks by Steve Leialoha. Page features six panels and shows Stormtroopers advancing on and attacking small shadowed group of characters (Chewbacca, Han Solo, R2-D2, C-3PO, Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi) as they stand discussing the condition of the Millennium Falcon, which is prominently seen in profile in top panel. Our heroes make a quick retreat inside the Falcon, with Han Solo firing off a few shots from his trusty blaster to cover their escape. Last panel shows Han ordering Chewbacca to enact the deflector shield and to make their escape from the Mos Eisley spaceport. Of special note, the second panel shows the back of Garindan (aka Long Snout), the Kubaz spy who notified the Empire of the location of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, C-3PO and R2-D2 on Tatooine. Han is clearly seen in last four panels, joined by Chewbacca in last panel. Dialogue in first two panels closely mirrors that of the film. Art has been signed at bottom of second-to-last panel in black felt tip pen by Chaykin. Top margin has stamped "Star Wars" title along w/inked issue/page numbers. Some stray blue pencil editorial notations at upper left margin. Top/bottom margins have thin strips of tape staining, not affecting art. Back has Marvel copyright stamp and margins have aged masking tape remnants/tape staining/residue. Art has some scattered white correctional fluid but otherwise remains clean and displays Exc. Very few pages of original art from the film adaptation issues of Star Wars have ever come to market. This piece (and other Star Wars original art offered in this auction) is fresh to market and this is its first time at auction. All came from one collector, and each is an incredible find.
