Item Description
11-5/8x17.5" artboard features pen and ink original art for cover to Sub-Mariner #11, published by Marvel March 1969. Art is by longtime Marvel artist Gene Colan (1926-2011), w/inks attributed to Dan Adkins (1937-2013) and Marie Severin (1929-2018). Art shows Namor, the Sub-Mariner racing across the ocean's surface towards submarine's periscope. Trade dressing (title, publishing indicia and story title) are copies that differ slightly in placement from printed comic (mainly the top piece extending into main image area whereas they are separate on published comic cover). Top margin has large title written in pencil and bottom margin has extensive handwritten notes regarding coloring for cover. Top margin has handwritten notes in ink, w/different coloring notes, more in line w/what was actually printed. These notations also request inker add Sub-Mariner's wrist gauntlets, which was done. Top margin has some sticker residue at left corner and small nick to margin edge w/pin holes at top center. Back of artboard has had strip of clear tape added along top margin edge. Scattered dust soiling to margins w/.25" edge tear just below right center edge. Art has .5" spot of moisture staining just above Namor's image. Fine/VF overall.
