Star Wars Weekly was Marvel UK's Star Wars comic series, reprinting their American counterpart's Star Wars comics, typically split into smaller segments and published over a number of issues. Offered here is 11x16.5" artboard w/pen and ink original art for the cover of Star Wars Weekly #20, published June 21, 1978. This issue featured the second half of the story published in the US as Star Wars #10. Art is by Tony DeZuniga (1932-2012) and shows Han Solo front and center, hefting a lightsaber toward the sky as a giant alien monster approaches behind him. Top margin has printed "British Book" along with inked "SW" title abbreviation and issue number along with lt. blue pencil "Tony" name and DeZuniga's initials written under handwritten "Pencils & Inks" note. Title and Marvel publishing indicia (as well as cover text) are pasted stats; Han's raised lightsaber is original art that extends into title stat, which has been cut away for this purpose. Back has Marvel copyright stamp and some pencil/ink notations. Back of artboard has some aging from title stat as well as some fingerprints. Handwritten printer notations at bottom margin. Top center margin has 1" area of tape residue and bottom quarter of artboard has some aging. This causes white correctional fluid to stand out somewhat in this area. Bottom edge of art has what looks like tape residue below Han's foot. Artboard shows some handling wear with creases at top corners and some scattered margin staining, but art o/w remains clean. Fine/VF overall. Fresh to market and first time at auction, this piece (and other Star Wars original art offered in this auction) comes from one collector, and each is an incredible find.
