Item Description
13.5x19.75" artboard has pen and ink original art by Jack Kirby (1917-1994) w/inks by fellow Marvel artist Steve Ditko (1927-2018). Art is for page 4 of Journey Into Mystery #63, published by Marvel Dec. 1960. From Marvel's pre-hero, giant monster era, art is from "Goliath! The Monster That Walks Like A Man!" storyline by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber, featuring five panels, with first being large splash panel showing the aquatic behemoth Goliath standing in the ocean amidst a number of warships. First two panels show Goliath announcing his presence and that his Atlantean brethren will soon join him on the surface world. Upon the pleas of the military, he announces he will wait as he wishes no harm. Last panels show diplomatic panic and a general retreat to the mountainous regions for protection. Top margin has inked "J. Into Mystery" title abbreviation with inked issue and page numbers. Back of artboard has Comic Code Authority inkstamp. Artboard is evenly aged and shows some lt. scattered handling wear with right margin edge having faint crease along majority of right side, but art remains clean and Exc. Great example from Marvel's pre-hero era by Kirby and Ditko.
