Item Description
11.25x17" DC Comics Sparta artboard features pen and ink original art for cover to Detective Comics #522, published by DC, Jan. 1983. Art is by longtime Batman artist Jim Aparo (1932-2005) w/inks by Anthony Tollin. Art sees Batman facing off against a returning Snowman (who had made his debut in July 1981) on a snowy cliff. Artboard has DC publishing indicia and title stats as well as "He's Back! The Sinister Snowman!" promo stat and stat for Green Arrow backup story. Top margin has inked "Detective" title, as well as month of publication and issue number. Back has DC Comics copyright inkstamp as well as large "Do Not Use This Side" stamp. Some glue staining surrounds a few stats, but this is not overly distracting. Small staple at top left corner, beside smudged spot in margin. Small spot of staining at lower left, which has thin strip of white tape along direct edition box stat. Art o/w remains clear and VF/Exc. Great example of a Bronze Age Batman cover, created by one of the Dark Knight's most beloved artists.
