1.25”. Back paper has NYC union bug and large text “This Button Was Made By A. Wm. Pertsch of Flushing Bay At Corona.” Button relates to the Maine’s salvage and final voyage.On 3/16/12 after being refloated, the Maine was towed, backwards, to sea. It was followed by USS North Carolina carrying three flag draped coffins. Pieces of the Maine were given by the government to various locations as memorials. This button was made for event in Linden Park, Corona, Queens, NY.A 1,000-pound shell was set into a granite base. Rev. Chidwick, chaplain of the Maine, was the orator w/a parade and fireworks in honor of Hugo E. Kruse, a local boy killed in the Havana Harbor explosion. Tiny age barely seen on extreme edge. Glossy. VF. Rare.
