Item Description
3.5" button. Jack Paar followed Steve Allen and preceded Johnny Carson hosting the show 7/29/57 -3/3/62. There were many marvelous shows, but Paar is most remembered for his unannounced stage walk-off 2/11/60. NBC censors deleted a joke without his knowledge from the prior night’s program. So, having learned this, on 2/11, he quit the show leaving his desk mid-program. That inspired the 1.25" button “I Want Jack Back” which summed up public sentiment. Paar re-appeared March 7, strolling on stage, striking a pose and saying “As I was saying before I was interrupted... “ to a burst of audience laughter. His return inspired the 3.5” “Welcome Back Jack” button by Emress, NYC. Top 1" has about 10 pinpoint indents not breaking the cello and seen only in certain light angles. No stain, full gloss. Both buttons are scarce. They come with a mailed and stamped “Postage Due 3 Cents” 3.5x5.5” fan response postcard addressed to a York, PA girl who built an amazing celebrity autograph collection which Ted Hake acquired a decade or two ago. Card is post marked Apr 24 1PM 1962 from New York, “Dawne” added receipt date “April 21,1962” above the NBC/Jack Paar 30 Rock return address and he has clearly signed in blue in “Jack Paar”. Card has area below autograph with remnants of unknown postal sticker likely related to the Postage Due rubber stamp. He signed the card about six weeks after leaving Tonight as he transitioned to The Jack Paar Program airing on NBC that fall. VF. Card comes w/JSA COA.
