Item Description
1-3/8x2.75". Scarce Japanese baseball card issue depicting star ballplayer, Victor Starffin w/front color art of a portrait along w/an in-action pose. Text back. Victor Starffin was born in Russia and became the first 300 game winning pitcher in Japanese Baseball League history. Starffin began his Japanese League career in 1936 w/the Tokyo Kyojingun club and would spend the next ten seasons w/them before a brief stint w/the Pacific/Taiyo Robins in 1946-47 prior to moving on to the Kinsei Stars from 1948-53 and finally retiring after the 1955 season w/the Takahashi Unions. Victor finished his career w/a won-loss record of 303-176 along w/an ERA of 2.09 and 1,960 strikeouts and topped off by his all-time Japanese record of 83 shutouts. In addition, Starffin won the Japanese pitching triple-crown in 1938 as well as League MVP in 1939 and 1940 and was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1960.
