Victor Starffin was born in Russia and became the first 300 game winning pitcher in Japanese Baseball League history. Starffin began his Japanese League career in 1936 w/the Tokyo Kyojingun club and would spend the next ten seasons w/them before a brief stint w/the Pacific/Taiyo Robins in 1946-47 prior to moving on to the Kinsei Stars from 1948-53 and finally retiring after the 1955 season w/the Takahashi Unions. Victor finished his career w/a won-loss record of 303-176 along w/an ERA of 2.09 and 1,960 strikeouts and topped off by his all-time Japanese record of 83 shutouts. In addition, Starffin won the Japanese pitching triple-crown in 1938 as well as League MVP in 1939 and 1940 and was inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1960. Richard Merkin Collection.
