Item Description
27.25x41" stock poster for Disney's Silly Symphony animated series. Poster features "Mickey Mouse Presents A NEW Walt Disney Silly Symphony" promotional text. These stock posters were produced by Tooker Moore Litho Co. of New York for United Artists as a cost-saving measure during the Great Depression, allowing for reuse each time a new Silly Symphony was released. Poster features images of Silly Symphony characters the Big Bad Wolf, Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood as well as insect character from 1932's Bugs In Love. Of particular note is the inclusion of three then unknown characters who would be introduced the following year - a penguin from Peculiar Penguins and Clara Cluck (who would debut in the Mickey Mouse cartoon Orphan's Benefit). But the real showstopper is the appearance of a Long-Billed Donald Duck, who would soon make his debut in The Wise Little Hen. This poster presents a rare preview of one of Disney's biggest stars - Donald Duck - before his official first appearance. Poster was originally folded and has been linen-backed w/scattered restoration along fold lines and at fold crease intersections, w/portions of margins having been touched-up and filled-in. 3" section to left of Clara Cluck has been replaced. Scattered staining between "Walt Disney" name and "Silly" title as well as at top center and center/lower right. Poster is now rolled and is VG overall, but would make nice framed display. Extremely rare and historic Disney poster. Thom Carchedi Collection.
