Item Description
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal Studios in 1927. He starred in a number of animated shorts from 1927 to 1938, 27 of them produced by Walt Disney Studios. After Universal took control of Oswald in 1928, Disney created Mickey Mouse as a replacement. 17" tall to tips of fully extended ears w/built-in key on back. Fabric ribbon stitched to shirt serves as belt and visible text reads "Oswald - Copyrighted Universal Pictures Corp. - An Irwin Pr," indicating Irwin as maker. 1932. Velveteen face while rest of fabric-covered body is cloth/felt. Leatherette shoes w/strings. Inner body has cardboard covering around wind-up mechanism. Toy is designed to rock back and forth as it slowly moves forward when wound. This mechanism does cause doll to move back and forth haltingly, but not fully as designed. Face shows even age toning. Slight fade to orange areas of ears. Outfit has some lt. aging. Sides of face have neatly inked child's name and "June 10, 1932" date. Still a structurally sound and Fine example. Rare and one of the few we'e offered in our 58 years. Thom Carchedi Collection.
