This amazing treasure was issued three years prior to his traditionally accepted U.S. rookie cards. Monford Merrill "Monte" Irvin was left fielder and right fielder in the Negro leagues and MLB who played with the Newark Eagles (1938-1942, 1946-1948), New York Giants (1949-1955) and Chicago Cubs (1956). Irvin was a World Series Champion in 1954. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1973. Making this rarity even more special, the back of the sheet pictures future MLB Boston Braves star Sam Jethroe. Page has been carefully separated from the booklet, is bright and clean, and displays fantastically as encapsulated and designated “Authentic” by CGC. A review of the PSA and SGC pop reports reveals that only one other example has ever been third party graded, by SGC, also receiving the same “Authentic” designation as the one we are offering here.
