Item Description
14x22.25" on cardboard by "Standard Printing Co...N.Y." Promoting a concert "In Memory And Tribute To The First Lady Of The Blues Mamie Smith" at Celebrity Club on Jan. 27. Features portrait of Smith at top left. Text reads "Victoria Spivey Presents Buddy Tate's Band and a / Cavalcade of BLUES KINGS and QUEENS" additional acts include "Jimmy Rushing, Lucille Hegamin, Hannah Sylvester, Alberta Hunter, Gertrude Saunders, Blue Lu Barker, Lillyn Brown, Bro. John Sellers, Rosa Henderson, Grace Allen, Sam Theard, Pat Blackman, Jennie Dancer, Jackie Lynn Wilson, Victoria Spivey, Leigh Whipper Plus Many Others". Two horizontal folds, loss at top right corner, scattered wear and small tears including pin holes in corners. VG. The only example known to us. Smith was buried in an unmarked grave after her passing in 1946. Victoria Spivey helped raise money for Smith's reinternment at Frederick Douglass Memorial Park in Richmond, NY holding this concert in celebration of the event and Smith's legacy.
