Item Description
1.75”, no maker. Photo of “E. H. (Edwin Hurd) Conger,” originally a representative from Iowa who later distinguished himself in military, political, and diplomatic fields. Conger was in Peking during the Boxer Rebellion (see previous item) at turn of century and conducted negotiations for U.S. after capture of Peking by the Allies. He headed the commission to negotiate a new commercial treaty with China of Oct. 8, 1902. Button design includes mother holding infant while soldier with pistol chases a fleeing pig-tailed Chinese man. Slight denting w/slight raised center area and light surface wear in reflected light. High gloss and excellent color. Only our fourth seen. Rare.
