Item Description
5x8" bifold program "Printed At 'The New South' Office, Port Royal, S.C.". Event program for the "Re-Raising" of the American flag at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina on "April 14th, 1865". Four years prior Major Robert Anderson was in command of Fort Sumter at the onset of the Civil War removing the forts 31-star American flag when he surrendered the fort to the Confederacy. Four years later he returned for this ceremony, now as a General, restoring the flag he had removed at the outset of the war. Two horizontal folds and scattered age most notably along left edge. Fine. An incredible piece of history coinciding w/the assassination of Lincoln that evening at Ford's Theater.
