Item Description
20x22.75" original heavy illustration board contains pen and ink original art illustration for a page in Famous Fantasic Mysteries Vol. 4, #5, published in Sept. 1942. Illustration is by Frank R. Paul (1884-1963), a noted pulp illustrator who worked extensively in the science fiction field. Paul was influential in defining the look of both cover art and interior illustrations in the nascent science fiction pulps of the 1920s. He was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2009. Illustration for Ray Cummings-penned "A Brand New World" storyline features three men in gas masks destroying lab equipment, w/unconscious man on floor. Void areas at top/bottom often contained text for the pulp story. Lt. aging/wear to board. Bottom left corner has an edge split that was repaired and lower right corner has small bits of edge chipping. Neither of these defects affect illustration at all. Some edge tanning around border. Pen and ink art is clean and would mat very nicely for display. Overall art is Exc.
