Item Description
1-7/16x2-5/8”. From the same set as previous five lots. Cy Young began his Major League career w/the Cleveland Spiders in 1890 and would remain w/that club through the 1898 season before a brief two-year stint in St. Louis followed by an eight year stretch w/the Boston (AL) team. Young would set numerous career pitching records, including the still-standing totals of 511 wins, 315 losses, 815 games started, 749 complete games and 7,356 innings pitched. Young was held in such high esteem by MLB that many years later, each league’s annual best pitcher award would be named the Cy Young award in his honor. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.
