Item Description
1-7/16x2-5/8”. The T206 White Borders series is widely considered to be the most popular card set of the pre-war era. Consisting of a total of 520 cards plus an additional “Big 4” super rarities, these fascinating treasures depict players in color lithographs surrounded by a white border w/player’s last name appearing at bottom along w/city. Backs contain an ad for one of 16 different brands of cigarettes w/varying degrees of rarity. There are 389 cards featuring Major Leaguers and 134 Minor Leaguers in the series. Johnson began his MLB career in 1907 w/the Washington Senators and would remain there for his entire career, culminating w/the 1927 season. To this day, Walter Johnson remains the all-time MLB leader in career shutouts w/110 as well as ranking second to only Cy Young w/417 career victories. At the time of his retirement, WaJo was also the all-time leader in career strikeouts w/3,509 to go along w/one of the lowest ERA’s in baseball history at 2.17. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 as part of the inaugural five man class.
