Item Description
3.5x5.5”. The designation of Giants’ players as “World’s Champions” dates this issue to 1906. Cards have a bw photo surrounded by a greenish or reddish-brown tone wooden-look frame w/a plaque printed in the bottom border. Post card backs include “Ullman’s Art Frame Series”. Gilbert was a middle infielder who began his MLB career w/Milwaukee during the American League’s inaugural season of 1901. Following a second one-year stint w/Baltimore in 1902, Gilbert would join the New York Giants, where he would remain through 1906 before finishing up his career w/two seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1908-09. Billy finished his career w/a .247 batting average to go along w/375 runs scored and 167 stolen bases. At time of cataloging, the PSA pop report indicates that this is the only example ever graded by PSA, making it a true 1 of 1. In fact, only five cards in total from this set have been graded by PSA.
