Item Description
1-3/8x2-5/8”. Designated as E107 in the American Card Catalogue, this set is significant because it was one of the first major baseball card issues since the 1880s. It established the pattern for most of the tobacco and candy card sets that followed over the next two decades. Cards feature bw player photos w/the name, team and position in the bottom border. Most are found w/either black back printing reading “One Of A Hundred And Fifty Prominent Baseball Players” (this example) or blank backed. Type 1 consists of 147 known different players plus 11 additional variations. Type 2 cards can be differentiated by the thickness of the card as compared to Type 1’s. Cross began his professional baseball career in 1892 w/the Brooklyn (NL) club. Cross would spend the majority of his playing days in Philadelphia, including four seasons w/the Phillies and six seasons w/the Athletics. He finished his career w/a .234 batting average to go along w/719 runs scored, 621 RBI’s and 328 stolen bases.
