Item Description
1-7/16x2.5”. The 1887-90 Old Judge series is the largest vintage baseball card set ever produced. Catalogued as N172 in the American Card Catalogue, these cards were produced by the Goodwin & Co. tobacco firm and inserted in their Old Judge and, to a lesser extent, Gypsy Queen Cigarettes. Players from more than 40 Major and Minor League teams are pictured w/some 500 different players known to exist. Up to 20 different pose/caption/team variations exist for some players. Backs are blank. Welch is widely regarded as one of the top pitchers in 19 th  Century baseball. He spent his entire career w/one organization, pitching for the Troy/New York Giants club from 1880-92. During his career, Mickey compiled a win-loss record of 307-210 along w/a career ERA of 2.71 and 1,850 strikeouts, an impressive number for that era. Inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973.
