Item Description
During the 1960s, boxes of Nabisco "Shreddies" cereal sold in the UK and Canada contained "3-Dimensional Plastic Pirate Rings," featuring six different designs - Long John Silver, Captain Flint, Captain Hook, Captain Kidd, Blackbeard and Captain Morgan. Offered here is a complete set of six plastic rings to punch-out of plastic sheet, featuring embossed relief pirate portrait. All remain unused and NM. Comes w/10-3/8x17" uncut, thin plastic sheet containing 21 ring designs. Flat proof sheet w/o embossing or perfortions and was cut from larger sheet, resulting in some unevern margins. Sheet is free of any cracks/chips and is NM. 10-7/8x12-3/8" cloth-covered mat contains preliminary concept mixed media original art for these rings, showing six different designs, featuring three children dressed as pirates in addition to Capt. Kidd, Blackbeard and The Jolly Roger flag. While Capt. Kidd and Blackbeard made the cut (w/more detailed art), the kids and the Jolly Roger walked the plank. Top of art feature the Capt. Kidd ring as it would be issued in punch-out card, w/"Actual Size" notation. This image has been crossed out in pencil. All text has been hand-lettered and margins have some scattered pencil notations, including "Shreddies" name added at top. Some lt. dust soiling by penciling, but art remains clean and VF/Exc. Unique lot showing the evolution of these classic premium rings. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold.
