Child's heavy cotton sweatshirt w/body size 14.5x16", total of 44" from sleeve to sleeve. Chest has 5.5x5.75" printed design depicting Superman from waist up, breaking chains w/"Superman" comic book title/logo below. No other markings or tags (inner collar tag is heavily worn) but by Norwich Knitting, 1940. Shirts were sold by them for 69¢ and was also offered as a premium through the Gum Inc. Superman Bubble Gum Club as shown in their prize folder. It was obtained by either sending 55¢ and five gum wrappers or for free by getting 55 people to join the club. Shirt has scattered aging w/very faint 1.25" stain at front collar, but chest image shows little wear and design remains clean and bold. Fine/VF overall. Very rare, w/only a few known examples, this just the third example we've offered in our 58 years.
