Item Description
8x10" vintage silver gelatin publicity photo showing Satchel Paige in Cleveland Indians uniform. Has great inscription and signature in fountain pen ink on white area of his uniform and reads in full "Best Wishes From Satchel Paige To My Best Friend Orestes Minoso." Minnie played for the Indians in 1949 and 1951 after being signed by them as a free agent in 1948 (and returned to the team in 1958-59). Paige played for the Indians in 1948-49 w/1948 being his first year in the Major Leagues, making him the first African American pitcher in the American League and the seventh black big leaguer overall. National Baseball Hall Of Fame inductions happened in 1971 for Paige and 2022 for Minoso. Scattered lt. handling creases overall, mostly just visible in reflected light. A clear, glossy and sharp image with bold signature. Fine. A truly unique Satchel Paige item and a rarely seen HOFer to HOFer signed item. Ex-Richard Merkin Collection. Comes w/JSA LOA.
