Item Description
9.25x11.5" cloth mat contains sheet of vellum w/conceptual hand-lettered black pencil/felt tip pen text w/black pencil original art for preliminary premium offer, showing "Hardy Boys' Detectoscope" which is advertised as "A Complete Pocket Size 'Private Eye'" while illustration of the premium itself shows rough drawings of children using premium at bottom. This concept was designed as a potential tie-in to the 1969 ABC TV cartoon based on the popular Hardy Boys mystery stories. While not produced in this format, the design was revisited a few years later in 1973 when it was issued as a box insert in packages of Post HoneyComb cereal. Exc. Comes w/three of these premiums, representing each color produced. Each remains factory-sealed in original cellophane bag w/printed instructions. NM. Neat lot showing the progression of this premium from concept to fruition. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold.
