Item Description
This 1970s premium production lot shows how premium creator Gordon Gold developed premium ideas/concepts to present to various cereal companies before finding an eventual home, being returned to the drafting board or being abandoned altogether. 11-5/8x14-3/8" cloth-covered mat contains vellum sheet w/mixed media original art promoting "Flintstone Plastic Character Book" premium, showing "Actual Size" book that opens to reveal high relief portrait of Fred Flintstone. Cartoon boy at bottom shuffles three such "books" beside text reading "3 In The Series - Trade 'Em, Collect 'Em." All text is hand-lettered. Vellum sheet has some scattered glue staining as attached to board, but this is not overly distracting and blends somewhat. Fine/VF. Comes w/three plastic prototypes, each .5" deep. Smallest measures 1-5/8x2" and features high relief portrait of Count Chocula when opened. Front "cover" of book is attached w/piece of tape as made. Two larger prototypes are each 2x2.5". Glossy prototype has "The Character Book" title on front cover, and when opened, reveals high relief portrait of Franken Berry. Other "book" opens to reveal high relief portrait of Cap'n Crunch adversary Jean LaFoote. Backs of both have embossed "Gordon Gold" name labels. Some scattered trace wear, but all are o/w Exc. While the concept was never actually produced, it still presented a very neat idea. Unique and one of the more interesting Gold lots we have offered over the years. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold.
