Item Description
9-1/8x12" display board has 5.75x5.75" thin artboard affixed w/clear plastic corner mounts. Artboard features pen and ink original art w/image within 3" dia. circle w/hand-lettered squadron name at bottom. Art depicts the insignia of the 48th Bombardment Squadron, a winged fist falling at speed. Activated at March Field, CA in early 1941 as part of the prewar mobilization of the Army Air Corps, the squadron was equipped w/B-18 Bolos and Lockheed Hudsons and engaged in coastal patrols over Southern California, later over the San Francisco area. It was inactivated on Jan. 27, 1946. Art has handwritten "Red, Yellow And Blue" color notation at upper right and upper left has pasted colored stat of how the finished button would look (which has some scattered staining). Art remains clean and Exc. Comes w/example of the pin. Historic and one-of-a-kind piece for the Pep Pin and Militaria collector. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold.
