Item Description
9-1/8x12" display board has 5-5/8x5-5/8" thin artboard affixed w/clear plastic corner mounts. Artboard features pen and ink original art w/image within 3" dia. circle w/hand-lettered squadron name at bottom. Art depicts the insignia of the 471st Bombardment Squadron, a bear wearing an aviator helmet while standing on a cloud and throwing a bomb. Activated in the summer of 1942 and assigned to the 334th Bombardment Group at Greenville Army Air Base, SC, it operated as a North American B-25 Mitchell Replacement Training Unit (RTU) until it disbanded in the spring of 1944. The 471st continues to this day as the 71st Air Refueling Squadron. Art has handwritten "Red, Yellow And Blue" color notation at upper right and upper left has pasted colored stat of how the finished button would look. Bottom edge of button design has hand-lettered squadron name. Faint fingerprint stain to bear's face, o/w art remains clean and VF/Exc. Comes w/example of the pin.
