Item Description
9-1/8x12" display board has 5-5/8x5-5/8" thin artboard affixed w/clear plastic corner mounts. Artboard features pen and ink original art w/image within 3" dia. circle w/hand-lettered squadron name at bottom. Art depicts the insignia of the 103rd Observation Squadron, a Pegasus. Inducted into active Federal service at Philadelphia, PA on Feb. 17, 1941, the unit was ordered into active service, performing anti-submarine patrols off the coast of New England. Beginning in 1943, he 103rd began flying P-39 Aircobra, P-40 Warhawks and B-25 Mitchell aircraft. They also flew the photo-reconnaissance variant of the P-38 Lightning; the F-5C (which had the P-38 's guns replaced w/cameras). The 103rd continues to this day as an active unit of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. Art has handwritten "Blue And Yellow" color notation at upper right and upper left has pasted colored stat of how the finished button would look. Art remains clean and Exc.
