Item Description
7/8" listed as DeWitt/Sullivan AL1860-70. DeWitt lists the metal varieties as: silver, copper, white metal and brass. However, this piece is silvered brass with just a tiny bit of silvering off the obverse. Has Lincoln portrait and DeWitt notes that this is the only engraved bust used on 1860 medals which is not in profile and he concludes it was based on the Cooper-Union photograph of Lincoln by Brady. He also notes the erroneous use of the first name as the obverse text reads "Abram Lincoln/Free Land, Free Speech & Free Men." Reverse shows eagle with 9 stars below and text "Union Of The States." Rare and VF.
