Auction #205 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1426 in auction 205
Item Description
Rim text reads "Meet Me In Toyland At Rudge & Guenzel Co." Pictured against pale red brick buildings is large intense color image of Santa flanked left and right w/toys including a teddy bear and his one hand holds holly sprig w/red berries. Only the second example we've seen in this 1.5" size and the 1.25" size is nearly as rare. Text is about 1/16" off-center to the right and his shoulder has pinpoint speck plus a 1/16" long sliver of some foreign matter trapped under celluloid. Pinpoint barely shows at all while the sliver appears as a fine line of slightly lighter color between the bottom tip of his hat and top edge of his shoulder. Reverse has covered tin back w/imprint of maker "Cruver, Chicago" in a style used about 1904 that features a horizontal bar pin w/extra tab of metal in addition to the standard opening to secure the pin in place. Where reverse cello meets tin are two 1/16" hairline cello splits barely visible without magnification as cello lays almost totally flat. One of the earliest and best Santa designs. Rare.
