Fawcett tried many times to duplicate the incredible success they had found with Captain Marvel. The idea that a character could be a powerful magician without a secret identity was not exactly original during the early forties. There were at least a dozen heroes with a similar motif, including one of the first, DC’s Zatara. However, Ibis ended up having one of the longest runs of them all. From his first appearance in Whiz Comics #2, he had caught the public’s attention. While he mostly appeared in anthologies, he did get his own title for a while. It lasted six issues and those saw sporadic publication. They were especially notable for their covers. This one carries a particularly obvious bondage motif. The pages are off-white to white. This unrestored book is CGC-certified 9.6 (NM+). According to the CGC Census this is the highest-graded copy they have seen. It is also recognized as belonging to the Mile High Pedigree.
