Auction #212 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 988 in auction 212
Item Description
2.25" tall pair of circular wooden pieces which are 1-3/8" diameter tapering to a metal point at the bottom. The two pieces are joined together and twisted to put tension on a spring, a metal shaft is pushed down to lock the lower unit into position and when the top is ready for use this metal piece is pulled upward releasing the bottom half which spins rapidly. The edge of the lower piece was once decorated with a star and strip paper label but only a few fragments of paper remain as this is where the top is gripped to induce the tension. On the top wooden piece the front panel has McKinley portrait with slogan "McKinley On Top" while at the back is a second panel reading "Souvenir From The Home Of McKinley/(Pat's Pen'd) Gibbs Mfg. Co. Canton, Ohio." A most unusual novelty created for the trainloads of people who visited McKinley in Canton Ohio during his "Front Porch" campaign. This, however, is the sole surviving example we have seen. Works perfectly. Rare.
