Item Description
10.5x15.5" DC Comics artboard has original art by Dick Ayers w/inks by Gerry Talaoc. For page 4 of the Feb. 1981 issue of DC Comics' "Unknown Soldier." Ayers (1924-2014) was a comic book artist best-known for his work as one of Jack Kirby's inkers during the Silver Age, including on some of the earliest issues of Marvel Comics' "The Fantastic Four." He was the penciler of Marvel's World War II comic "Sgt. Fury And His Howling Commandos," drawing it for ten years. Offered here is art for one of DC's World War II comics, and page has six panels, featuring Adolf Hitler discussing w/Nazi SS official the death of "My Best Kommando" and saying it's not the same as killing the "Real Unknown Soldier." Hitler appears in three panels, w/SS member and Helga performing Nazi salute in last panel as Hitler leaves. Some scattered aging along top margin w/minor streak across first panel. Aged strip of tape at bottom center. VF overall, but art remains Exc.
