Item Description
2-1/8". 1914. No back paper as issued but with American Art Works on curl. Depicts Kansas University mascot Jayhawk perched on reclined University of Missouri tiger and hawk twists tiger's tail in a loop as the tiger wails. Circular surrounding text reads "Oh Me! Oh My! Won't We Black That Tiger's Eye! /Won't He Weep! /Won't He Wail! /When We Twist That Tiger's Tail." One of three known to us. Rare. Essentially Mint. From color plate page #165. Comes w/Hake's COA. The best colorful and graphic football early button known to us. Last two we offered varied from $500-$800. This example has been in the Hake Collection since the mid 1970s when the Joe Stone Collection, the basis for the book Collectible Pin-Back Buttons, was acquired.
