Item Description
Extensive promotional kit presented to Leon Harvey (brother of Harvey Comics founder Albert Harvey) in March 1971 for consideration for the Halloween 1971 season, using Casper the Friendly Ghost to promote both Hi-C beverages and Eveready batteries. Included are typed letter on premium maker Einson Freeman and Detroy Corporation letterhead addressed to Harvey, which has original mailing envelope and copy of notice regarding planning for the Fall season.
Kit includes –
Illustrated 10x13” envelope and matching pop-up folder that contains six 6-5/8x13.75” to 8.5x11” non-Casper Hi-C and Eveready advertising pieces (two 6x10.75” w/pads of mail-in flashlight order blanks). Two glossy ad slicks (5x16.5” and 9-3/8x18.5”) featuring Casper floating w/can of Hi-C in one hand, and Eveready-powered flashlight in the other. Text mentions flashlight offer. Two matching ads on aged newsprint come w/slicks. All have been folded haphazardly, resulting in creases. Fine overall. Remaining components of kit include grocer letter on Coca-Cola (parent company of Hi-C) letterhead w/Casper image and details of promotion as well as five glossy cardstock pieces, three featuring Casper images, all w/Halloween text that were to be used for store displays as seen in inside pop-up folder. Unused and VF to Exc. w/some lt. corner tip wear.
Rare, especially as a complete kit, and the only example we've offered. Added bonus of being addressed to Mr. Harvey. Kit comes w/Oct. 4, 1971 issue of Supermarket News bearing Casper ad included in kit. Evenly aged and VF overall. A must-have for Casper fans.
