Item Description
18.75x24" Bainbridge Illustration Board features mixed media original art for cover recreation for Torchy #1 comic book, which was originally published by Quality Comics in Nov. 1949. This recreation was done in 1978 by Torchy creator Bill Ward (1919-1998), and shows Torchy in sleek black outfit, reacting to Navy recruitment sandwich board w/a smiling sailor leaning on it, appearing to reinforce Uncle Sam's "The United States Navy Wants You!" message. Ward has signed at bottom right. Bottom margin has hand-inked "Torchy #1, 1949" notation in black ink and Ward has signed his fill name at lower right, adding "1978" date. Exc. Artboard is attached to larger mat w/mounting tape along top edge and is ready for framing.
