Item Description
3.75" tall by 8.5" long cast-iron motorcycle w/original rubber tires. Hubley, w/name marked on tires. c. 1930s. Motorcycle comes w/4.5" tall cast-iron Popeye figure that stands on its own and has movable arms. Figure fits nicely on motorcycle and hands grasp handlebars. Raised "Patrol" name on motorcycle gas tank. Small stabilizer rubber tires keep motorcycle upright for play/display. Hubley also produced as smaller size variety of this toy. Motorcycle shows wear to paint, most notably to red paint on handlerbars and gas tank from figure rubbing against surfaces. Original cycle paint remains about 85% complete. Nickel-plated wheel spoked have some scattered trace oxidation. Right side stabilizer tire is missing and left side tire shows wear w/large crack/separation. Popeye shows expected wear on inside of legs/pants and on chin as well as to rear end. Appearance is bright and glossy, approx. 90% of paint remains. Both motorcyle and Popeye figure exhibit significantly less paint wear than typically seen w/this classic toy. Cast Iron Automotive Toys (Schiffer, 2000) Book Photo Example. Thom Carchedi Collection.
